New CD

SLEEVE NOTES

Well here it is, finally! It’s been 4 years since I last recorded a CD so it’s about time. The last 4 years have seen a lot of changes for me both professionally and personally, but life’s all about growing and learning and I’d like to think I’ve done both in that time. I’ve been to some great places and met a lot of fantastic people who have all impacted on my life in some way, many of them I will probably never meet again but they have all had an effect on me.

This CD like my last one is a collection of some of my favourite jazz and swing songs, as I’m getting older my voice is maturing and the way I think about songs has changed so I feel I’m better equipped to sing this style of song. I’ve got a bit more life experience behind me now that I can draw on, hopefully this shows when I sing. Songs like In The Wee Small Hours and A Song For You are the type that I couldn’t have done justice to a couple of years ago, I hope I have now.

The older I get the easier I find it to appreciate a good lyric or a subtle change of feel in a song and the great musicians I’ve been working with recently have helped me with that. I think I’ve developed my own style in the last few years, I’ve always tried to learn form the great singers of the past but I’ve never tried to imitate them. When you’re singing other peoples songs and arrangements it’s easy to just copy the original singer but I’d like to think I put my own little mark on any song I sing.

Recorded Spring 2006 at Spotlight Studios, Beeford East Yorkshire
